Re: No dash lights brake lights or wipers
Ok. More sleuthing required. Dash lights: do the first gens have a dimmer for the dash lights? Sometimes that knob can get turned right down, I've seen that be the cause on here a number of times. Do your running lights and headlights work? I ask because if they come on but your dash lights don't, c...

Re: No dash lights brake lights or wipers
So all your lights and wipers worked before you installed the Weber, and now they don't? How long ago was the alternator arc incident? If that incident was a while back and things worked fine until you installed the weber, I don't think there would be a link between that incident and the electrical ...

Re: Brake pads
I've always replaced the pads and rotors at the same time. Even if the rotors are in excellent shape, unless they are machined flat again they are not going to mate perfectly with the new pads. Less contact means less braking power of course so that's my guess.

Re: It starts but doesn't idle or stay running
If it is the choke why is it stuck open You have to investigate that to figure it out. Once the engine has warmed up, the choke should stay open in the vertical position. If it's stuck open all the time, you have some investigating to do. Sometimes the linkage that connects the choke valve to the t...

inaccurate trip meter
My current Tercel is a Frankenstein of transmission-to-the-cluster parts. The diff is from an '87, the trans is from an '83 (which shouldn't make a difference but is still worth noting since the speedo gear is in there), the speedo cable is from an '83, and the cluster is from an '83. I have seen ot...

Re: It starts but doesn't idle or stay running
Have you checked for vacuum leaks, and gone over the various carb settings to make sure they're correct?

Re: Sputters or dies after running a while.
If pouring gas down the carb when it stalls doesn't help, it's not stalling due to fuel starvation. Might be due to flooding which I mentioned could be due to running it with the wrong fuel pressure for that carb.

Holy smokes, that's really nice Larry. Did you find a local company to do the upholstery or did you have to order and ship stuff?
Don't worry about the pictures, they are all right side up when I clicked on them.

Re: Shifter bushings
That's interesting, good to know you found something that worked.
Did you check with Toyota for the shifter bushing? I think that's where I got mine last time. That was a long time ago now though, maybe 10 years or so.

Re: Parts to save from an 89 coupe
Unfortunately, there is no overlap between the third generation Tercel coupes and the second generation wagons so probably not going to be much interest in those parts here.

Re: Sputters or dies after running a while.
I don't believe the higher fuel pressure would cause damage to the carb, I think it would just cause it to flood or run rich at times. I never ran into that though so I can't say for sure though.

Re: Sputters or dies after running a while.
I agree with Mark. To answer the Weber/fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator questions, yes the Weber uses the stock fuel pump but it does require a FPR because the stock pump puts out a pressure of 5-6 psi and the weber likes 2-3 psi, IIRC. Mogordo if that's something you're going to look into you shou...

Welcome back! What was your user name here before? I'm not sure if you can post videos here -- for photos, you scroll down below the text field, click 'attachments,' click 'add files' and do that, then click 'place inline' to put them in your post. But I don't know if that works for videos, I think ...
