Re: Free to good home: Complete 4AFE swap
My problem is driving style and the unknown condition of this transmission, it was a Xirndeh special.
In any case, my inspiration for what's coming is Project Binky, but that's all I'm saying for now .

Free to good home: Complete 4AFE swap
Hey all, after breaking a 2nd transmission input gear set, I've decided I'm going to let the 4AFE go. Up for grabs is a complete, basically turn key, 4AFE swap kit. The whole thing is set up to be bolt in and requires no modification to the firewall. Includes: 4AFE engine -> Rebuilt ~30k miles ago. ...

Re: Non A Family Engine Swaps
I've seen a Tercel wagon with a an Altezza 3sge and 6 speed transmission swapped in, making it RWD. Just about anything can be done with enough time, tools, and clever ideas.

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
The inner tie rod ends will have dropped with the rack, which is bolted to the crossmember. Having dealt with bump steer correction on my MR2, I'll tell you right now that 2" drop of the crossmember is going to require dropping the outer tire rod ends 2" to match, or else your bump steer i...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
The flipped manifold idea looks really interesting. It's too bad you're not in the Seattle area, I could hook you up with the fab work no problem

Re: The Definitive List of Ways to Lift a Tercel 4wd
One thing I found out about on mine recently, after replacing the original driveshaft center bearing, is that lifting the rear a bunch causes the flanges between the front driveshaft and the rear diff to mis-align be ~2 degrees. This doesn't sound like much, but the extra stiffness of a fresh center...

Re: 2nd Gen 4A-FE Swap
20v pistons will have 20mm pins. I believe the 4afe rods can be bored for them, with bronze bushings installed. The 4af and early 4age rod big ends have 40mm journals, where the 4age got 42mm journals when they went to the 7 rib variety in 87. There are aftermarket rods that have 40mm crank journals...

Re: 2nd Gen 4A-FE Swap
The holes drilled on the end of the counter balance are definitely for balancing ;). I imagine they forged the 4AFE cranks using the same tooling as 4AGE cranks, since the only difference in the early ones is 6 flywheel bolts vs. 8. Even if it is cast, Toyota tended to make things stout as hell in t...

Re: Hello from Vermont! New member with transmission fluid questions.
An important part when draining the oil is to take out the transfer case crossover plug, it's the 19mm head bolt on the bottom, near the back of the transmission. This will let all of the oil in the transfer case drain out as well. When filling, put that bolt in 2 turns or so because that's how oil ...

Re: 2nd Gen 4A-FE Swap
Here are the maps from my 4AFE tune. Crank/Afterstart/Warmup are the hardest parts to tune :). You maybe be able to run more timing advance at full throttle if you run a crank trigger. My distributor based setup isn't as accurate so I had to pull some timing to make the engine not knock at full thro...

Re: 2nd Gen 4A-FE Swap
The whole performance vs econo tune is a bit of a misnomer, unless you make a drastic change to the car. We'll tuned maps bring economy and performance because you can dial things in at different loads. Where multiple maps come into play is when you have an engine set up for different fuels or diffe...

Re: Manual Steering?
One thing to be aware of is that you have to swap the MR2 rack and pinion into the Tercel housing. The AW11 has rear steer knuckles, while the Tercel is front steer. You'll get backwards steering if you put a compete aw11 rack into your Tercel

Re: 2nd Gen 4A-FE Swap
The 6-3/4" wheel with slots will do nicely. Get some spacers and use the M8 threads in the crank pulley hub to mount it.
