1986 carb

164K on it when pulled. Car ran fairly well but as with any used carb I'd suggest a rebuild. This came from a federal emmissions car. $40 shipped anywhere in the US. Pics later today if needed.

Re: Emissions: 85 engine into an 83 SR5

Jim, Glad I could be of help to you- now if only I could help myself I'd be all set, haha. Sometimes it just takes a second set of eyes to see what you've been over-looking/not understanding. I often have a buddy come by and proof my work for that very reason. Plus staring at this mess of vac lines ...

I want that steering wheel. And clear turn signal lenses. And the grill. :(

Re: Electric fuel pump

Nothing in the FSM on gasket/spacer thickness...and with a mechanical pump operation depends on how close the follower is to the cam. My old pump was sticking when cold and would take forever to start pumping...when out...found the follower was riding on the edge of the cam. Think I used the thick ...

Electric fuel pump

I have searched the forums a good bit on this topic and have not found a clear answer. I would like to delete the mechanical pump and run an in-line electric. questions are: -Location of pump. In the engine compartment or near the tank? -Block off plate for mech. pump. I can fab one but, does anyone...

Re: Temp gauge q's????

I replaced the T-stat (the old one was not closing all the way) and all is well. I did the radiator cap as well for good measure. Temp guage goes up to just shy of the middle mark and stays there. As a side note- I thought the heater worked well before, now I can't run it very long before it cooks m...

Re: Temp gauge q's????

so..the fan turns on when it gets halfway up the tempgauge? Mine does the same thing..that's what it's supposed to do. Hhmmmm. I ASSumed the fan wouldn't cycle until closer to the top end of the gauge. If that's the case, now I need to figure out why my avg. running temp is only on the line next to...

Re: Temp gauge q's????

Update- Cleaned the conn. and stripped the wire back to were it was clean and shiny. I then soldered the wire and made sure it was good and tight. I let it warm up and.....the fan turned on at the half way point and it didn't go any higher. :x This leads me to believe there may be a break in the wir...

Re: Temp gauge q's????

I will repair/replace the wire today. Now that I think about it- that makes pefect sense. I just need to remember to sometimes think of the easiest/most obvious thing and then go from there, lol. I am going to replace the t-stat as part of my PM routine. Thanks again.

Re: Temp gauge q's????

I'll stop by the 'yota stealership after work tomorrow and pick one up. I'll also redo the connector and see if that helps. If the gauge still pegs with the conn. shorted out, shouldn't it still read correctly off the sender? It seems as if the gauge is reading 45* off (not 45* temp wise, 45* sweep ...

Re: RPM Cycling Situation & Vacuum Switch Location Query

Mine was doing this with partial throttle input as well and I've been having a heck of a time trying to figure it out- until I read this thread. I have the line blocked right now and was able to dial the mixture back a bit. No more pinging! I have some RC fuel filters left over from my RC days so I'...

Re: RPM Cycling Situation & Vacuum Switch Location Query

[quote="4wdchico"] If that is not happening I'll find a Terc w/ a dead vac advance and just break off the extra vac nipple that is only used on the FED versions with the HAC. That nipple has a restriction in it. Then I'll just insert it in the line that I currently have disconnected (betwe...

Temp gauge q's????

My temp gauge has been showing a bit low in my 86. By low I mean only onto the line to the right of "C" while driving and it takes a bit to get there. If I let it sit and idle, or do a lot of slow driving while in EL it will get into the middle......and the cooling fan will click on. I tho...

Re: "EL" switch?

I guess mine has never worked. My trans will pop out of EL if I forget and take it out of 4WD without getting out of EL first. Also ASSuming that you're being a bit "tongue in cheek" as was previously posted- mine pops out of EL as well when shifted out of 4WD. To further clarify, I was t...
